Peace, Being Justified by Faith
A Study on Romans 5:1
Jul 27 2015
My very first impression?
When I saw your strange expression,
Wonder what’s wrong with this guy?
Guess I’ll be knowin by and by.
It was only a very small favor,
And wouldn’t require very much labor.
Are you able to tell me whether
My friends and I can camp together?
Once we settled and began to nest,
I soon began feeling like a pest.
First one need and then another,
Embarrassed to be such a bother.
Thought I had found a way to repay,
Offered to cut your hair that day.
But once again, your strange expression,
Left me with a pitiful impression.

Reflecting on the years gone by
Oft comes to my mind, Dear Lord, why?
Who am I to have been so blest
By the one with whom my heart does rest.
Surely there must have been another
That proved to be a better lover.
Why among all the choices fine,
Would you choose such a one as I?
A flower broken, bruised, needing much
A tender soul with delicate touch!
One who would nurture, love and care
Causing this flower to bloom so fair!
One who forgives the pricks and stings
One who believes and hopes all things.
One who sees me in the bouquet
Offered to God that beautiful day.

Love says no matter what you do I will love you.
Love prefers to bless than to be blessed.
Love does not demand its own way.
Love suffers long and quietly while not being allowed to live its own choices.
Love does not retreat and separate when not receiving its own way.
Love seeks to understand the other.
Love desires to believe that the other is doing their best to bless.
Love forgives even when it is not perceived that the other is doing their best to bless.
Love does not remember past wrongs.
Love encourages and lifts up the other.
Love is eager to share its heartfelt sorrows as well as its joys.
Love says with me you are safe.
Love honors in private as well as in company.
Love seeks to protect the reputation of the other.
Love never speaks harshly but quietly and respectfully.
Love listens.

For the Lord may you be found living,
Unselfish love for others giving,
And thus by this many souls winning,
Loyal to the end.
Peace, joy, and cheer to others bringing,
Not just in joy but in grief still singing,
Thoughts of future bliss, trusting, dreaming,
Joyful to the end.
In the precious promises believing,
Emptied of self, the love of God revealing,
And thus the joy of Christ receiving,
Faithful to the end.

Twenty years later
A little older
A little grayer
But still in love!
Been though thick and thin
I’m getting thicker
You’re getting thinner
But still in love!
Year by year they creep
Missing a few teeth
But YOUR smile’s still sweet
We’re still in love!
Years have flown tis true
My vows I’d make anew
Share the rest with you
I’m still in love!

Again, March sixteen finds us here,
Two thousand and three marks the year.
Seventeen years gone by so fast,
Closeness reveals our love will last.
A blessed time with one so dear-
Stay close to Christ, no need to fear.
Trials and tests our foe will cast,
We’ll overcome by faith-hold fast!
All said and done when comes the end,
On whom do our hope and plans depend?
The Mighty One who gave us life,
Yet promised no path free from strife.

You ask, how has it been,
During our sweet sixteen?
Well, one might never guess,
Just how much I’ve been blessed.
New home, new friends, new life,
I feel like a new wife!
Each day-just me and you,
Allows for feelings true.
A time to learn and grow,
Love for each other show.
In this you lead the way,
By you I’ll ever stay.
